Guwahati: Kutumba Suraksha Parishad wants Manabendra Dutta Choudhury out. The group claims the Rabindranath Tagore University Vice-Chancellor committed massive financial and professional fraud. KSP central president Satya Ranjan Bora laid out the charges at the Guwahati Press Club on Friday. He cited alleged illegalities regarding Choudhury’s past work at Karimganj College and Assam University.

Bora claims Choudhury falsified Ph.D. completion dates and ignored UGC rules to secure his professor status. The group alleges Choudhury lacked the mandatory 10 years of experience to qualify for the Vice-Chancellor role in 2024. He also allegedly hid a 2011 criminal case from Silchar police involving the assault of journalists and the destruction of their equipment.

The group points to patterns of abuse. Choudhury allegedly stays away from campus for up to 15 days each month. He supposedly runs university projects without bids and hires out-of-state relatives for departmental jobs. Bora also raised red flags over the university’s high Ph.D. fees. He noted a charge of Rs 76,000 against the typical state rate of Rs 15,000 to Rs 26,000.

Bora pointed to personal conduct as well. He accused the VC of seizing family land after his brother died. The group now demands the Governor, Chief Minister, and Education Minister intervene. “As a conscious person of Hojai district, and also as a fundamental duty of Indian citizens mentioned in Article 51(A) of the Constitution of India, we certainly have a responsibility towards the university,” Bora stated.
