Kohima Municipal Council Enforces New Waste Management Rules

Kohima: The Kohima Municipal Council has ordered all 19 wards under its jurisdiction to strictly follow the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2026. Chief Executive Officer Alemyapang Longchar announced that the Dzürüzou dumping site is now under the management of the Prege Eco Green Foundation, which is responsible for the scientific processing and segregation of local waste.

All wards must coordinate directly with the foundation to ensure operations align with updated environmental guidelines. The council has explicitly forbidden any individuals or groups from removing segregated waste from the landfill site.

Failure to adhere to these new mandates will result in strict enforcement. The council stated that any ward, individual, or establishment failing to comply with the directives or violating segregation norms would be "liable for penalties under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026."
