Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem has introduced a scholarship fund totaling Rs. 2 lakhs to promote education and empowerment among local girls. This initiative, launched under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme, is titled Educate Her, Empower Her. It will provide financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to each of the 20 selected students.
Eligible candidates must be permanent residents of Kohima district who completed their Class X or Class XII exams in 2026 with a minimum of 60 percent marks. The district administration will prioritize applicants from economically weaker sections, single-parent or orphan households, and those who are differently-abled. To qualify, an applicant's annual family income must not exceed Rs. 1.5 lakh.
The District Level Selection Committee will finalize the recipients based on a combination of academic performance and socio-economic status. Candidates must submit their application forms alongside required documentation, such as mark sheets, residency certificates, and proof of income. According to the DIPR report, the initiative aims to "recognize academic excellence among girls and support their educational aspirations."
