Imphal: Security forces brought Haobijam Dilip back to Manipur. The 52-year-old leads the banned Kangleipak Communist Party. A Special NIA Court remanded him to judicial custody until June 30. He will stay behind bars.
Officers arrested Dilip in New Delhi on May 6. A joint team of Delhi Police, Manipur Police, and central agencies nabbed him. He spent weeks inside Tihar Jail. Authorities eventually moved him to Imphal West district for legal proceedings. He appeared before a judge via video link on Saturday.
The Bishnupur man faces over a dozen charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Singjamei Police investigators claim he ran wide-reaching extortion schemes. He allegedly ordered his crew to target shops and businesses throughout the capital area.
Interrogations paid off. Police recovered a massive stash of explosives, guns, and ammunition hidden in Kakching district. "The investigation also resulted in the arrest of several other individuals allegedly linked to the case," the lead officer stated. The investigation remains active as authorities track down his network.
