Shillong: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara warned election officials this week to handle the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls with extreme care. He insists that no eligible voter should lose their right to cast a ballot. Booth level officers must coordinate closely to stop the needless deletion of names.
Deputy commissioners and tahsildars now have the power to issue residence certificates. This move aims to cut through red tape and help the public. Parameshwara said, "For this reason, the SIR process must be taken seriously, and every effort should be made to ensure that no voter loses their right to vote." Any discovered irregularities will face immediate investigation.
The minister also took a swipe at the central government regarding ongoing funding issues. He claimed that delays in grants for programs like the Jal Jeevan Mission and MGNREGA have hindered state development. He noted that Karnataka struggles when the center refuses to cooperate.
During a visit to the Belagavi District Congress office, Parameshwara called for party unity. He promised that dedicated workers would soon receive more responsibility. He plans to push leadership to reward loyal staff who have been waiting for new roles. Outside of party politics, he expressed worry about a failing monsoon. He plans to meet with district officials to manage drinking water supplies as drought conditions spread across the state.
