Kohima: Minister N. Jacob Zhimomi opened the new Public Health Engineering Department division office in Niuland on Friday. The facility cost 124 lakh to build. Work started after a 185 lakh sanction in late 2024. Contractor M/s PROJEXON delivered the building featuring rainwater harvesting and lab space. The office remains empty for now. Officials are still waiting on staff appointments and cadre revisions before it fully opens.
Jacob warned locals that constant land disputes and high compensation demands will kill progress in the district. He pushed citizens to keep the big picture in mind. "While aspirations and demands were legitimate, they should be pursued reasonably without obstructing public welfare," Zhimomi stated. He reminded residents that the government provided settlement land for free in the past.
District leadership wants to see Niuland thrive. Deputy Commissioner T.L. Kuusumong Tikhir said land and boundary disputes still block growth. He plans to meet with village councils soon to settle these arguments. Meanwhile, the administration is pushing for a census to help the area secure urban development grants and a formal Town Council.
The minister also set expectations for local workers. He told contractors to stop chasing quick profits and focus on quality construction instead. He called on elders to guide the youth and support police efforts to turn the region into a model district.
