Shillong: The Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong and the North Eastern Space Applications Centre signed an agreement Wednesday in Dhankheti. They want to use satellites to fix public health gaps. The deal links environmental data from space with local health stats.

Dr. S.P. Aggarwal of NESAC and Dr. Sandra Albert of IIPHS finalized the pact. They intend to build models that spot disease outbreaks before they spiral out of control. Mapping risk areas is the first step. The technology will help officials target health hotspots in the rugged terrain of Meghalaya.

Researchers will lean on the One Health approach during this project. They believe in a simple truth: "The interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health" dictates community well-being. This focus should refine how the state allocates medical resources.

Staff will also train for climate-informed planning. Better maps mean better outcomes for isolated mountain villages. Both institutions expect this work to shore up health systems against future threats.
