High Court halts Meghalaya Cricket Association meeting

Shillong: The High Court of Meghalaya halted a power struggle within the state cricket board this week. Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew suspended a notice for a Special General Meeting scheduled for July 3. He also froze all decisions from an Emergent Apex Council gathering held on May 9.

MCA president James P.K. Sangma filed the petition seeking the block. He wanted to stop honorary secretary Rayonald Kharkamni from making unilateral changes. The court agreed the petitioner had strong arguments. Justice Thangkhiew noted, “In the considered view of this court, the petitioner has made out a prima facie case for interim orders at this stage.”

The ruling keeps the MCA Ombudsman in place for now. He will continue his work under the association constitution. The court issued the order ex parte but allowed the respondents to challenge it later. Everyone returns to court on July 21 to settle the dispute.
