Shillong: The Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong checked 250 people for health issues on Thursday. The event, held at Police Bazar, partnered with Chowdhury Pharmacy to run the Know Your Numbers program. Screeners tested locals for blood pressure, weight, and blood sugar levels.
Fifty-three people walked away with news of health problems. Overweight issues topped the list with 27 cases. Others faced hypertension and diabetes. Most of the folks tested were between 40 and 59 years old. A 75-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman defied the odds. They both recorded normal health parameters.
Organizers pointed to the rising need for proactive care. They said the camp showed a "growing need for regular health check-ups and healthier lifestyle practices to prevent non-communicable diseases through timely diagnosis and intervention." This work falls under the Rotary International initiative to create lasting impact.
