Guwahati University Hosts NCC Shooting Drills for IDSSC 2026

Guwahati: Girijananda Chowdhury University in Azara turned into a military training ground this summer. The 7 Assam Battalion NCC hosted four combined annual training camps on the campus between June 5 and July 21. Each camp pulled in 400 cadets from various units across the Guwahati Group. Nearly 1,600 total students ran through the drills.

Qualified instructors and coaches put the cadets through intense firing practice. They focused on weapon handling, range discipline, and zeroing techniques to sharpen their marksmanship. These sessions were built to get the students ready for the Inter Directorate Service Shooting Championship in 2026. The university served as the staging area to find and groom the best shooters for the North Eastern Region Directorate.

The training reached far beyond the firing line. Cadets logged hours in drill, map reading, field craft, and battle craft. They also engaged in physical training, yoga, and social service projects. These activities pushed the students to build leadership, teamwork, and a sense of national unity. The organisers noted the camps were a success, stating the event reaffirmed the NCC motto of "Unity and Discipline" while promoting patriotism, selfless service and dedication among the cadets.
