Guwahati-Shillong Highway to Install Street Lights for Improved Safety

Shillong: The Guwahati-Shillong Highway, a vital corridor connecting Assam and Meghalaya, will soon feature new street lights across several previously dark sections. Workers have already begun installing the lighting systems to improve visibility and overall safety for those traveling at night.

This initiative addresses specific safety concerns raised by residents in villages along the route. The project targets seven to ten distinct stretches of the highway, with each segment spanning approximately three to four kilometers. Officials noted that the move follows requests where residents have "highlighted the need for better illumination."

The installation process is currently underway, and the lights are expected to be fully operational within the next six months. The project serves as a major infrastructure upgrade that aims to provide a safer experience for thousands of daily commuters and people living along the roadway.
