Guwahati: Guwahati’s Athgaon Sarvajanik Durga Puja Samity is going big for 2026. They have set a budget of Rs 60 lakh to build a replica of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple. Local artist Ashish is constructing the structure, which aims to blend architectural grandeur with South Indian heritage.
This is a major shift from last year. The committee gained massive popularity in 2025 with its Harry Potter themed pandal. That project drew more than five lakh visitors and earned the Radio Mirchi Most Iconic Puja award alongside the Times of India Best Theme Pandal award. The group traces its history back to 1983.
The committee is preparing for a heavy turnout. Organizers are already finalizing logistics for crowd flow and road safety in the Athgaon area. They confirmed the 2026 event will center on the theme, "Swarnagiri - Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple." Officials stated the presentation aims to offer visitors an immersive experience combining devotion, heritage, craftsmanship and architectural grandeur.
