Imphal: A suspected hand grenade rocked the home of Congress MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh on Thursday evening. The blast hit the gate of his residence in Bishnunaha, located in the Yairipok area of Thoubal district. It was 8.15 pm.
An unidentified person hurled the explosive at the property. Police arrived quickly to secure the scene and search the surroundings for suspects. Nobody was hurt in the blast. The motive remains a mystery.
Police have launched an active investigation into the attack. Authorities are still working to identify the assailant. According to police reports, "The identity of the attacker and the motive behind the attack are yet to be established." More details are expected as the probe continues.

The attack on the Congress Legislature Party leader marks the second strike against an elected representative in less than a week. Meghachandra condemned the violence, specifically pointing out the danger caused by detonating explosives in a densely populated residential zone.
This blast follows a similar incident on August 28, when a grenade ripped through the boundary wall of government spokesperson and MLA Sapam Ranjan’s home in Konthoujam Mamang Leikai. In that case, Ranjan stated he had no personal vendettas and no history of extortion demands after returning from meetings with central leadership in Delhi.

The attack on Ranjan’s property occurred at 1:30 am on August 28, causing damage to the western boundary wall. Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh visited that site following the explosion, and local residents held a sit-in protest to denounce the violence.

Senior spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami argued that the blast might be tied to Meghachandra's aggressive stance in the ongoing Assembly session, where he has pushed for NRC updates and peace initiatives. The party expressed frustration over a pattern of what they term police inaction, noting that similar attacks on party offices and residences have gone unresolved, potentially emboldening further aggression.
The Sadar Hills District Congress Committee hit out at the government, alleging that officials are prioritizing political optics over public safety. They pointed to the Chief Minister's recent trip to the Leimakhong area as a distraction from the broader security crisis facing the state's leadership and citizens.
