Guwahati: Gauhati University officials claim a VIP dining hall project was just a paperwork blunder. The university says the term was used by accident in a recent tender. It sparked backlash for implying elitist facilities. The school wants the record straight. They claim the space serves students, parents, and visiting faculty.
The university stated the term "VIP Dining Hall" was inadvertently used in one of the tender documents during its preparation. Officials admit the label was a bad habit from internal references for visiting experts and professors. They fixed the language in a June 24, 2026, letter to define the project as a general dining hall upgrade.
The construction committee signed off on the job to fix an outdated kitchen and cramped dining space. Current facilities cannot keep up with the school's mounting academic and cultural schedule. Now, the university is demanding an explanation from its Superintending Engineer. They want to know why the wrong term made it into the public filing.
