Guwahati: Dhubri Police busted an extortion ring using AI to prey on women. Officers arrested Roni Kundu, Arun Choudhury, 27, and Santosh Choudhury, 32. They are behind bars now.
Kundu posed as Vishal Roy on Facebook. He baited victims by offering help with family and money troubles through astrology. He then shifted to blackmail. The gang used AI tools to create fake, obscene images of a 28-year-old victim. They threatened to blast the pictures over WhatsApp unless she paid up.
The victim paid Rs 2 lakh in cash. She also sent money via UPI. She finally went to the authorities. Police registered the case as Dhubri PS Case No. 346/26. The charges fall under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Investigators are now scrubbing the gang's financial records. They want to know how many other victims exist. Police stated, "Dhubri Police are conducting further investigation to determine whether other women were targeted using the same modus operandi and to trace the financial transactions linked to the alleged racket."
