Guwahati: Batter Denish Das became the most expensive player in the inaugural Assam Premier League auction. The Barpeta Braves paid Rs 12.60 lakh to secure him on Sunday, July 19, in Guwahati. Bidding was fierce. Eight franchises fought to build their rosters before the tournament starts on August 1.
Sumit Ghadigaonkar followed as the second-highest earner. The Charaideo Sunrisers signed the wicketkeeper for Rs 12.20 lakh. Veteran batter Sibsankar Roy joined the Barak Legends for Rs 12 lakh. Ayushman Malakar went to the Tezpur Titans and Swarupam Purkayastha went to the Jorhat Stallions, both for Rs 11.80 lakh. The Barak Legends also picked up Abdul Ajij Kuraishi for Rs 8.40 lakh and Bhargab Lakhar for Rs 5.20 lakh.
Other roster moves included Barpeta Braves adding Saurav Dihingia for Rs 7.80 lakh. The Dibrugarh Warriors signed Saahil Jain for Rs 7.20 lakh and Jitumoni Kalita for Rs 6.20 lakh. The auction continues as teams fill their remaining slots. These 20 marquee players all boast experience in BCCI tournaments.
Assam Cricket Association president Taranga Gogoi backed the league to elevate local talent. He noted the scale of the operation for the eight regional teams. "The auction on 19 July is the day this league becomes real for our players," Gogoi said. He expects the tournament to give fans across the state a new sense of pride.
