Congress MLA Nurul Huda threatens protest against Assam Uniform Civil Code Bill

Guwahati: Congress MLA Nurul Huda announced on Monday that his party will closely examine the proposed Uniform Civil Code Bill before determining a response. Speaking in Guwahati, Huda stated that the opposition will challenge the legislation if its provisions conflict with religious practices or the tenets of Islam.

The legislator emphasized that the party intends to conduct a thorough review of the bill once it is formally introduced in the Assam Legislative Assembly. He made it clear that any perceived threat to religious freedom would trigger organized protests from the Congress party.

Beyond the civil code proposal, Huda criticized the government over rising fuel prices. He alleged that authorities waited until after the elections to implement daily price hikes to favor oil companies. The MLA claimed the government and these companies are working in tandem to burden the public with increased costs.
