Guwahati: Congress leader Aminul Islam grilled the government today over the actual results of the recent BRICS Summit. He wants to know if the high-level meetings yielded anything concrete for India. The politician spoke in Guwahati and demanded answers on several front-burner geopolitical issues.
Islam specifically challenged the administration to explain the current state of India-China relations. He pointed to the 2020 Galwan Valley clash as a lingering point of contention. The water supply also hit his radar. He claims the water level in the Brahmaputra has dropped by 40 per cent since 2022. He questioned if officials addressed this during the summit talks.
He also linked the presence of the Iranian President to broader energy security concerns. Islam asked if India held direct talks regarding the Strait of Hormuz. That waterway serves as a major hub for global shipping and energy transport. He warned the government that it must prioritize national interests over optics.
The veteran politician did not hold back on his appraisal of the Prime Minister. “Our Prime Minister is just taking photos. India's international relations are basically very bad now. Foreign policy is gradually deteriorating,” he said. Islam insisted that the public deserves to know if the summit actually delivered any positive gains for the country.
