Imphal: Armed gunmen sprayed bullets into Thingkhongjang village on Sunday evening. The ambush left an eight-year-old girl and a 56-year-old woman wounded. The victims, Lamneingah Kipgen and Nengneichong Kipgen, suffered injuries during the attack.

Assam Rifles soldiers provided emergency care at a local camp. Medics later moved the pair to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Police tightened security around the hospital building to prevent any further chaos.

The area remains a powder keg. Tensions spiked back in June when protesters swarmed the same hospital, claiming wounded Kuki youths were actually militants. Security forces are keeping a close watch on the site.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur denounced the violence. The group officially stated, "The firing was carried out by members of the NSCN (IM) and ZUF (Kamson)." Officials are investigating the source of the gunfire.
