Guwahati: Chennai police have taken two individuals into custody following the gruesome murder of 40-year-old Ameer Ali, a native of Assam. The victim’s wife, Ruheema, and her friend, Ashraf Ali, face charges for allegedly killing and dismembering the man before dumping his remains across the city.

The investigation began on June 5 when commuters at Perambur Railway Station reported a foul smell coming from a suitcase left on Platform 4. Police discovered a torso inside, which they traced back to a private hospital in Teynampet after finding a medical waste bag at the scene. This discovery allowed detectives to identify the victim and track down the suspects.

Investigators believe domestic conflict served as the primary motive for the crime. Police stated, "Ruheema was allegedly upset over her husband's purported relationship with another woman, which had resulted in frequent arguments and tensions within the family." The pair reportedly drugged the victim before slitting his throat at their shared residence.

The suspects, who worked assisting medical patients traveling to Chennai, attempted to hide the evidence by scattering body parts at various locations. Authorities utilized CCTV footage and identified inconsistencies in the suspects' accounts to secure the arrests. While the torso is undergoing a post-mortem at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, police teams are still searching for the victim's head and other missing remains.
