Kohima: The Chakhroma Public Organisation is hitting the streets. Members will gather for a peaceful protest on July 17 to fight for their ancestral land rights. They are fed up with the state government, specifically citing official inaction regarding a long-running dispute against Maova Village.
The event starts at 10:00 AM at the Jharnapani New Medziphema location. Supporters will meet at the Peren-NU Medziphema Campus road junction. From there, the group plans to march to the Office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Medziphema to hand over a formal memorandum. They are demanding the state finally acknowledge their status as traditional landowners.
The organization is taking a hard line. According to the group, it remains firm and resolute in its stand and will not compromise on any of our ancestral rights. This rally serves as a direct warning to Maova Village that these traditional claims are not going anywhere.
Tribal bodies and local citizens are invited to join the march. Leaders want a big turnout to help in amplifying the voice of the Nagas in safeguarding our ancestral rights, which are being threatened at this critical juncture.
