Kohima: The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) plans a peaceful rally on July 17. The event starts at 10:00 AM in Jharnapani, also known as New Medziphema. Protesters will gather at the Peren-NU Medziphema campus road junction before marching to the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC). They intend to submit a formal memorandum to the government during this demonstration.
This rally targets the state government over its alleged inaction regarding a land dispute with Maova Village. It also serves as a pushback against the non-acknowledgement of traditional landowners in the region. The CPO asserts its legal standing and plans to send a clear message to Maova Village. General secretary Nivizolie Meyase noted the group remains firm. The organization declared it "remains firm and resolute in its stand and will not compromise on any of our ancestral rights."
Organizers are calling on tribal bodies and citizens to join the effort. They want to amplify local voices regarding land ownership. The CPO believes these ancestral rights face threats today. They expect high turnout for the march.
