Kohima: District Planning and Development Board members met in Chümoukedima and Wokha on July 10 to clear local projects and review public infrastructure. Officials prioritized economic growth and service delivery in both districts.
In Chümoukedima, board chair Zhaleo Rio pushed officers to work with genuine purpose. He told them, "duties should be carried out with a sense of purpose rather than viewed merely as employment." The board approved society registrations for Pro Village and Odia Samaj Nagaland while clearing LADP proposals for 2026-2027.
Members reviewed a plan for a new District Industries Centre. They also pushed the PWD to address a damaged suspension bridge at the Chümoukedima Saturday Bazaar. Waste management remains a focus. Officials urged better trash segregation to help the area become a model district.
Over in Wokha, leaders reviewed the drying Etsutchukha water source and poor road conditions on National Highway 2. Engineers promised pothole repairs within two weeks. Concerns surfaced regarding pollution at the Doyang Hydro Reservoir from discarded fishing gear. Experts suggested a new recycling unit to curb the mess.
The Wokha board heard reports on public safety and labor. Police noted a shortage of personnel, specifically women officers, despite launching a cyber cell last year. The Labour Department highlighted over 1,700 worker registrations but noted significant gaps in active coverage.
The board also toured a local addiction center and the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Poor road access and low enrollment plague the school. Only 297 students attend, leaving nearly half of the available seats empty.
