Shillong: The Bureau of Indian Standards, in collaboration with the Meghalaya government, hosted a workshop on June 11 to help local micro, small and medium enterprises improve their product quality and regulatory compliance. Held at the Directorate of Commerce and Industries in Shillong, the event drew nearly 60 participants from sectors including cement production, food processing, and plywood manufacturing.

North East Livelihood Promotion Services facilitated the event, which featured technical sessions led by experts from both BIS and the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology. These sessions covered essential certification procedures, product standards, and technical support services available to regional business owners.

The founder and CEO of North East Livelihood Promotion Services opened the program by emphasizing the necessity of institutional collaboration. He stated that the event focused on the importance of "quality standards, certification and institutional collaboration in improving the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs in Meghalaya and the Northeast."

Attendees participated in interactive discussions aimed at helping them navigate market access norms and industry best practices. Organizers noted that the initiative serves as a platform to foster a culture of quality, ultimately helping local businesses strengthen their competitiveness and consumer trust while supporting industrial growth across the region.
