Kohima: The Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) Bhandari met September 16 at the Community Health Centre to tackle local crises. ADC Longasen Lotha chaired the session. He reviewed past minutes and welcomed new members. Dr. Lydia reported on the Bhandari Medical Block, which serves 56 villages. She noted the CHC acts as a First Referral Unit for seven nearby villages. The board demanded the immediate posting of a Senior Medical Officer to replace a transferred staffer.
Water woes dominated the talk. The board pushed for replacing old pipes at the health centre to ensure reliable supply. Roads also hit a breaking point. LLRPO President Dr. Khonsao Alex reported hazards on the Longayim, Mekirang, and Lio Longchum routes. He asked for funds from Advisor Achumbemo Kikon and local departments to fix the 5-kilometre stretch from Merapani. Repairs aim to make the road jeepable again.
Public safety concerns moved to the police. YAPO President N Thungdemo Tungoe proposed a temporary site for the police outpost at Ruchan village. He confirmed logistical arrangements are ready following a September 11 meeting with the village council. Meanwhile, power issues persist. JE Mhaden Murry thanked officials for supporting transformer installations. He warned that the department needs more staff and a pool vehicle. He also asked for public help with clearing jungle growth near lines. "The house further deliberated on the rationalisation and feasibility aspects for upgradation of the existing power supply from 11KV to 33KV to Yanmhon area, covering 20 villages."
Disease hit the livestock sector. Dr. Kikali G. Sumi confirmed African Swine Fever killed 10 pigs in Merapani. Samples tested positive at the State ELISA Laboratory in Kohima on September 2. Farmers are now burying carcasses to stop the spread. Lead Bank Manager Chophathung Yanthan finished the meeting with an update on district banking status. The next board meeting moves to the Government Higher Secondary School.
