Bangladeshi national surrenders to Assam court seeking return home

Guwahati: A Bangladeshi man named Din Islam Sheikh surrendered before a district court in Sribhumi, Assam, after entering India illegally. A resident of Barguni village in the Gopalganj district of Bangladesh, he claimed to have crossed the border with the assistance of an agent known as Rugby.

After entering the country, the man traveled to Guwahati and eventually reached Silchar by train. He told officials that he lost contact with the broker shortly after crossing the border. Upon learning about potential routes back to his home country, he traveled to Sribhumi and presented himself at the District Judge’s Court.

Legal representatives stated that the man believed the court could facilitate a legal return to Bangladesh. Following his appearance, the court remanded him to police custody. Authorities are still working to determine the specific border crossing point he used to enter India. Police expect to bring him back before the court soon to determine the next legal steps in his case.
