Kohima: The Asufü Christian Institute in Mao celebrated World Environment Day on June 5 by hosting an extensive plantation drive. Organized by the school's Eco Club, the initiative brought together faculty, staff, and students to plant local cherry tree saplings across the campus and along the Kidima-Nagaland Road toward Kapengho Junction.
The project extended nearly one kilometer past the school boundaries, reflecting the institution's broader goals of environmental conservation and sustainability. Beyond adding new growth, participants spent the day maintaining trees from previous campaigns. This work included weeding, applying manure, and cleaning the area to ensure the long-term survival of the local ecosystem.
Eco Club Convenor Lohrü Adai noted the necessity of ongoing personal accountability during the event. He told attendees that "environmental conservation is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of every individual."
Adai encouraged the school community to view ecological stewardship as a continuous commitment rather than a singular event. By integrating sustainable practices into their daily routines, he noted that consistent individual efforts could collectively secure a healthier environment for future generations.
