Guwahati: The Assamese independent film Before Spring dropped on ReelDrama OTT on July 17, 2026. Director Shrutismriti Changkakoti shot the 2023 feature in her hometown of North Guwahati. It maps the struggle of three locals caught between tradition and modern life.

The story hits hard. Jun, a seventeen-year-old boy, drops out of school to pilot a boat on the Brahmaputra River. Financial needs force his hand. He eventually loses his love to strict caste and class barriers. Monikanta, a sixty-year-old man, fails to find work across the river and faces betrayal. His family suffers the fallout.

Sixteen-year-old Majoni finds herself manipulated by her tutor, Pradeep. She thinks he cares for her. She learns the truth the hard way. It is a brutal look at the thin line separating childhood innocence from exploitation. The film does not shy away from themes of poverty, gender, and deep-seated social inequality.

Changkakoti is a Sociology gold medallist from the University of Madras. Her background informs the gritty, realistic tone. The narrative suggests that, despite the heavy currents of life, humans endure. The director notes that resilience remains possible, "much like a boat that continues to float despite the ever-changing currents of the Brahmaputra."
