Guwahati: Moran police detained Ghoraghach village ward member Arun Guriya for allegedly stealing a cow from the Tilaijan Tea Estate. The arrest follows a formal complaint filed after the animal vanished on Saturday around noon. Residents spotted two people leading the cow away and confronted Guriya, who denied the theft.
The owner, Mukesh Goala of Line No. 6, took the case to the Moran Police Station. Officers recovered the cow by Saturday evening. Investigators registered case number 67 under sections 303(2) and 3(5). The incident sparked local anger because a politician is involved. Regarding the ongoing probe, authorities confirmed: "Police have detained Guriya and launched an investigation into the alleged theft and the role of those involved."
