Assam Vigilance Cell Investigates Rainwater Harvesting Scheme Fraud in Nagaon

Guwahati: The Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell has launched an investigation into a rainwater harvesting scheme executed by the Public Health Engineering Department in Assam's Nagaon district. The inquiry centers on potential financial irregularities and mismanagement that allegedly occurred during the Congress government led by former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Authorities are currently inspecting schools and religious institutions in Batadrava and Samaguri where the projects were originally implemented. Investigators stationed at the Batadrava Public Works Department bungalow have been auditing official records and verifying the current physical status of the installed infrastructure.

The probe follows claims of widespread corruption regarding how project funds were allocated and spent. According to officials familiar with the case, the investigation targets the potential involvement of various PHE Department engineers and political figures associated with the previous administration. On Friday, June 12, the vigilance team continued their site visits, stating they are "examining records and verifying the status of the infrastructure created under the scheme."
