Guwahati: Education officials in Bajali, Assam, forced a shift away from glowing screens on Wednesday, September 2. The Elementary Education Department hosted a district-level Best Reader Competition at the office of the District Elementary Education Officer. The event aims to break the cycle of digital distraction.
District Elementary Education Officer Simanta Deka pushed the initiative to fix a growing problem. Children spend too much time on mobile phones today. Deka noted the goal is simple: "The programme seeks to encourage them to return to books and develop regular reading habits."
The competition burned through three distinct stages to find the best readers. Students started at the school level, moved through the mandal round, and finished at the district headquarters. Three experienced judges scrutinized the performances to crown the winners.
Every child who made the final cut receives a certificate for their effort. Top performers will take home prizes for their dedication. Organizers plan to keep pushing this campaign to build a lasting culture of reading in the district.
