Guwahati: The management committee of Krishnai Habraghat Higher Secondary School in Assam’s Goalpara district has formed a 10-member panel to investigate a controversial incident involving five students. The committee met on Tuesday alongside the District Inspector of Schools to determine if the students should face expulsion or other disciplinary measures for their alleged actions on June 4.
Reports indicate that five Class IX students allegedly brought beef to the school and pressured two Hindu classmates into eating the meat. The two students reported the event to an assistant teacher, but initial allegations suggest the staff failed to escalate the matter appropriately. The situation reached local families after the students shared their experience at home, sparking significant tension in the community.
Law enforcement officials including Deputy Commissioner Pradip Timung and Superintendent of Police Navneet Mahanta visited the site to maintain order. The families of the two affected students filed a formal complaint at the Krishnai Police Station. Police detained the five students and one mother, with the woman later being remanded to judicial custody.
School authorities confirmed that the newly formed inquiry committee will examine all details of the case. They stated, "The committee will investigate the incident and recommend whether the five students should be expelled from the school or face any other disciplinary action."
