Assam Rifles Chief Pledges Support to Ex-Servicemen in Mokokchung

Kohima: Director General of Assam Rifles Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera met with hundreds of veterans in Mokokchung on June 23. He stood before a crowd of ex-servicemen and their families. The force draws recruits from every corner of India. Lakhera told the group the uniform makes them "one tribe." He wants to bridge the gap between active duty and retirement.

The outreach drive brought together roughly 300 people from across Nagaland. Attendees traveled from districts like Kohima, Dimapur, and Longleng to seek help. The General promised to resolve outstanding grievances. He pushed veterans to use existing government welfare programs. Children of former soldiers might also find paths to join the force if they meet the rules.

Medical teams ran free dental and health clinics throughout the day. They handed out medicine to those in need. The organizers also gave away 11 wheelchairs, six walkers, 15 walking sticks, and six hearing aids. Leaders honored gallantry awardees, Veer Naris, and Veer Matas for their sacrifices. Cultural dances from the Ao and Chang tribes rounded out the event.
