Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet tightened land settlement rules on July 10. Families must now prove three generations of residency to qualify as landless and receive government land. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the new residency mandate during his announcement.

Refugees who arrived before March 24, 1971, keep their eligibility. These individuals must show valid documents to bypass the three-generation rule. The state government intends to prioritize long-term residents with this policy shift.

Tezpur will see a major infrastructure upgrade. The Cabinet cleared 474.25 crore rupees for a four-lane flyover at Mission Chariali. This project aims to fix the town's traffic jams and improve local transit.

Officials also reshaped the Assam State Higher Education Council. They moved to permanently retain staff positions under the 2011 Venture Educational Institution Act. These changes ensure consistent manpower across the state school system. The government claims this move will strengthen educational services.
