Guwahati: Assam is bringing back subsidized masoor dal and sugar for residents. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the items will return to the public distribution system starting in August. This move follows a massive rollout of free food supplies across the state.

The government pushed out over 1.34 lakh metric tonnes of rice during July. Roughly 70 lakh families received the grain at no cost. Officials claim the program ensures basic food security for every household in the state.

Sarma linked these efforts to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated the "Anna Sewa Se Jan Sewa" initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring food security for every household and is inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state aims to keep essential goods within reach for all residents.
