Guwahati: Over 20 armed Assam Police officers marched into Mukroh village on Monday. They arrived at 12:45 pm, walking from Lumthidow along the NEC road. The group included news reporters and cameramen filming the march. They passed a local Border Outpost and a Meghalaya Police Battalion station without being stopped or questioned.
The Dorbar Shnong Mukroh Pyllun wants answers. They fired off a letter to the Barato Police Outpost demanding to know why no one was informed. The council stated, "The latest movement had caused fear and confusion among residents and could have law-and-order implications." Villagers are worried about the lack of coordination given the area's history.
Mukroh remains a flashpoint for border tension. It was the site of a deadly firing incident on November 22, 2022. The council is now pressuring the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police to intervene. They want to know if Meghalaya authorities knew the group was coming. Local leaders are calling for tighter patrols and strict rules to ensure future border movements are cleared by both states.
