Agartala: The federal government named Dr. Debabrata Das as the next Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University. Das currently serves as an advisor in the Assam government's Higher Education Department. President of India Droupadi Murmu confirmed the move in her role as the Visitor of the institution.
The Ministry of Education released the official order on July 2, 2026. Deputy Secretary Shreya Bhardwaj signed the notice addressed to the university registrar. It marks a major leadership change for the Agartala campus.
Das stays on the job for five years. He hits a hard stop at age 70. "The terms and conditions of his service will be governed by the provisions of the Tripura University Act, the University's Statutes and Ordinances, along with other applicable regulations," the order stated. He takes the reins immediately once he steps into the office.
