Guwahati: Assam officially launched the Blue Valley Cluster in Guwahati on Tuesday, marking a strategic effort to deepen economic collaboration with the European Union. The initiative focuses on the bioeconomy, aiming to unlock new opportunities for investment, innovation, and sustainable industrial development within the region.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hosted the event alongside European Union Ambassador to India Herve Delphin, representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs, and members of the Federation of European Business in India. The platform is designed to connect local entrepreneurs, research institutions, and community groups with European markets, specifically targeting growth in natural fragrances, flavors, and AYUSH-based products.

During the meeting, Sarma positioned Assam as an emerging investment hub, pointing to potential growth in semiconductors, electronics, defense, and organic industries. He noted the initiative is expected to support local producers and startups while fostering skill development and employment. Ambassador Delphin emphasized the region's potential, stating that the project will "strengthen economic linkages between Europe and Northeast India while encouraging environmentally responsible and community-focused growth."

A formal Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited and the Federation of European Business in India to solidify this partnership. The agreement provides a framework for institutional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and long-term investment. Officials expect the pilot project to benefit micro, small, and medium enterprises by facilitating technology transfer and expanding international trade access for local farmers and women entrepreneurs.
