Guwahati: Assam Jatiya Parishad installed Kunki Chowdhury as the party's new Central Joint Secretary and official spokesperson. AJP General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan confirmed the appointment in a formal notification, effective immediately. The party is currently shaking up its internal structure following the 2026 Assembly elections.
Chowdhury is 27. She brings an academic background to the role, holding a Master's degree from University College London. During her campaign for the Guwahati Central constituency, she stood out as the youngest candidate to run in the 2026 race. She ran on an AJP ticket supported by the opposition alliance.
Her work focused on the daily grind of city life. She highlighted failing infrastructure, specifically tackling chronic waterlogging, poor drainage, and waste management. She also pushed for better public health, improved women's safety, and the growth of community libraries. The party leadership now expects her to apply that experience to handle both internal organizational duties and public messaging. As the party stated, she is taking on "key responsibilities in both organisational affairs and public communication."
