Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced an extensive plan to strengthen medical services for the state's tea garden communities. The government is focusing on bringing primary care directly to workers by upgrading existing facilities and establishing new health centers in remote regions.
The state is currently upgrading approximately 354 hospitals, with an investment of Rs 3 lakh allocated for each facility to enhance infrastructure and service quality. Additionally, 200 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are already providing care, and more centers are planned for the near future. These efforts aim to provide tea garden employees and their families with reliable access to preventive care and medical treatment.
Sarma described the ongoing project as a "revolution in healthcare for tea gardens" and credited the state's collaborative governance for the rapid progress. By prioritizing these remote estates, the government expects to significantly improve the well-being of one of the state's largest labor forces.
