Guwahati: A Sonitpur district court sentenced Abdul Qadir to life imprisonment on Friday for a murder dating back over a decade. Qadir killed Yasumuddin, a resident of Kurukani Latetapu village, on September 9, 2011. Justice arrived years late. Prosecution records show Qadir and two accomplices ambushed Yasumuddin outside his home. They used sharp weapons for the attack.
Yasumuddin died on the spot. His wife also sustained injuries during the assault. Tezpur Police launched an investigation into the bloodshed immediately after the crime. The case moved through the court system until the final verdict confirmed Qadir’s guilt. The judge ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. Failure to pay will result in an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
