Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a strategic shift to secure reclaimed public land, accelerate infrastructure development, and increase agricultural exports. Following a series of high-level meetings on Monday, the Chief Minister confirmed that the state government is prioritizing long-term protection for land already recovered from illegal occupants.
Reflecting on past efforts, Sarma stated, "Over the last five years, we have reclaimed over 200 sq km from encroachers. We are now taking robust steps to ensure encroachers are never able to return to these lands." The government is now shifting its focus toward ensuring these areas remain permanently free of encroachment.
To bolster infrastructure, Sarma directed the Education, Health, and Power departments to identify major projects suitable for the central government's Viability Gap Funding initiative. By utilizing this program, the state aims to improve the financial feasibility of public projects and drive faster regional growth.
The administration is also focused on revitalizing the agricultural sector by boosting investment and maximizing support from federal programs like the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. Officials plan to prioritize exporters of organic and Geographical Indication tagged products while creating better linkages between farmers, aggregators, and global markets to increase producer income.
