Guwahati: Assam's Criminal Investigation Department conducted a late-night search at the Morigaon residence of BJP legislator Ramakanta Deuri. The operation is tied to an ongoing probe into alleged irregularities within the Assam Fisheries Development Corporation recruitment process. Deuri, who once served as the chairman of the corporation, is now identified as a primary accused in the case.

Following the raid, investigators issued a formal summons to the lawmaker. He is required to appear before the agency to face questioning regarding his potential role in the appointments. Officials are currently scrutinizing various documents and records gathered during the search to uncover the scope of the alleged procedural violations.

This investigation has expanded significantly over recent months. On May 30, authorities arrested a key suspect in Odisha, bringing the total number of arrests to nine. Prior to this, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended eight government officials, including two from the Assam Civil Services cadre, following searches across multiple districts including Guwahati, Nalbari, Dhubri, and Nagaon. As the probe continues, officials confirmed that the investigation is being handled in accordance with legal procedures. One official noted that the agency is "intensifying efforts to uncover the full scope of the alleged scam and identify all individuals involved."
