Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his support for four state athletes heading to the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The games run from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland. He expects them to return with medals.

The roster includes Olympic bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain, alongside lawn bowl players Nayanmoni Saikia and Putul Sonowal. Para-cyclist Lisa Das also earned a spot. She is the first para-athlete from the state to qualify for this event. They earned their positions through pure grit.

Sarma took to X on July 17 to celebrate the squad. He credited their hard work and the ongoing backing of the state government for this achievement. The Chief Minister posted his full support for the team online.

"Best wishes to Assam's champs- Lovlina Borgohain, Nayanmoni Saikia, Putul Sonowal and Lisa Das for the upcoming #CommonwealthGames2026. I am confident that they will give their best shot in their sporting disciplines and bring laurels for the country," Sarma wrote.
