Guwahati: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Golaghat, operating under the Assam Agricultural University in Jorhat, has been named the recipient of the NAAS-Dhanuka Award for Excellence in Agricultural Extension for 2026. This honor, which designates the facility as the best Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Zone VI, recognizes the center for its work in promoting farmer welfare and innovative agricultural practices.
Dr. Ashok K. Singh, Secretary of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, confirmed the center will receive the award on June 5, 2026. The presentation will take place during the NAAS Foundation Day celebration at the National Agricultural Science Centre in New Delhi.
KVK Golaghat earned this recognition by successfully disseminating new agricultural technologies and training local farmers. Through field demonstrations and awareness campaigns, the center has worked to boost regional productivity and improve the livelihoods of rural families. Their programs focus on climate-resilient farming, integrated systems, and entrepreneurship opportunities for rural youth and women.
Dr. Dipjyoti Rajkhowa, Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University, praised the staff and scientists for their commitment to excellence. Dr. Bidyut C. Deka, Director of ICAR-ATARI Zone VI, also commended the team for their dedication to the farming community. The award highlights the impact of scientific extension services in advancing sustainable development throughout the northeastern region.
