Guwahati: The Asam Sahitya Sabha will posthumously award the Sangeet Sudhakar title to Zubeen Garg. The organization announced the honor this Sunday in Guwahati. This decision follows a formal resolution passed by the group's governing body. It recognizes his massive impact on the music and cultural heritage of Assam.
Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami, the president of the Sabha, will hand over the award on July 30 at the Sangeetacharya Lakshmiram Barua Sadan. The event features dance and music performances honoring the late artist. Officials visited his family at Jonali Studio earlier this month to share the news. The icon is widely revered as the "Voice of Assam" for his work spanning over three decades.
The group has big plans. They will host a national seminar for scholars to discuss his life. Papers from this event will fill a new book. To spread his reach, they intend to translate his famous songs into English, Hindi, and Bengali. Garg rose to fame in the early 1990s with his debut album, Anamika. He recorded thousands of tracks as a singer, composer, and director before his passing.
