Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh regulators hit the ground running. The Directorate of Health Services ordered a statewide inspection of every retail pharmacy and medicine outlet on July 30. Drug control officers and zonal licensing authorities must now sweep their jurisdictions to root out illegal operations.
The crackdown responds to mounting complaints. Reports highlight systemic failures to meet statutory norms, poor medicine storage practices, and the presence of unqualified staff behind the counter. Regulators want to verify if pharmacists hold proper credentials. The state needs to ensure that only qualified professionals handle the distribution of medicine to protect public health.
Teams are tasked with checking every license and measuring compliance against established drug regulations. All field agents must file their findings by August 14. The Directorate stated the move aims to ensure that "medicines sold across the state are stored and dispensed in accordance with prescribed standards."
