Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh officials closed 202 legal disputes during the recent National Lok Adalat. The day-long event settled claims totaling Rs 2,38,89,413. Justice moved fast.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority organized the effort with help from District Legal Services Authorities. They deployed 26 benches across high and district courts to manage the load. Out of 2,016 total cases brought for hearing, these benches resolved 202 through mutual consent. Some of these matters had lingered in the system for more than two years.
The event targeted a wide range of issues. These included matrimonial disputes, motor accident claims, cheque dishonour cases, and bank recoveries. It also handled civil suits, labour disputes, revenue matters, and compoundable criminal offences. Both pre-litigation matters and active court filings appeared on the dockets.
Judicial officers, panel advocates, and litigants participated in the statewide drive. The authority stated the event was "aimed at providing a faster and affordable avenue for resolving disputes through mutual settlement and improving access to justice across the state." This strategy clears backlogs and saves time for everyone involved.
