Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has issued a four-day ultimatum to the state government, demanding the safe release and identification of six Liangmai Naga hostages. The group alleges these individuals were abducted by Kuki militants on May 13 alongside villagers from Leilon Vaiphei. ANSAM warned that if the government fails to act by the deadline, which begins on May 29, the community will initiate a collective boycott of the administration and urge Naga legislators to withdraw their support.
During an emergency meeting held on May 24, ANSAM leaders expressed frustration over the government's perceived inaction regarding these abductions and broader regional instability. The association specifically challenged the appointment of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, citing a conflict of interest due to her marriage to KNF(P) chairman Semtinthang Kipgen. They also accused certain KNF(P) members of involvement in the hostage situation.
Tensions remain high as ANSAM also criticized Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam for allegedly dismissing reports of violence against Naga settlements in the Kamjong district. The organization contends that armed Kuki groups have repeatedly targeted these communities this month. To restore security, ANSAM is calling for the immediate cancellation of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant factions and the dismissal of Nemcha Kipgen from her government post.
