Kohima: African Swine Fever has hit the State Pig Breeding Centre in Akuluto. ADC Tiayanger Jamir issued an immediate order banning the slaughter, sale, import, and export of pigs and pork products. The ban covers Akuluto town and the nearby villages of Lumithsami, Shichimi, Sutemi, and Alaphumi.
Post mortem exams on dead animals showed lesions consistent with the highly contagious virus. Officials sent samples to a lab to confirm the outbreak. The virus moves fast. It spreads through infected animals and contaminated gear.
All pork shops and slaughter points in the area must shut down until further notice. Jamir warned that anyone breaking these rules will face legal consequences. He stated, "ASF, being a highly contagious viral disease, poses severe economic risks and spreads rapidly through movement of infected pigs, pork and contaminated materials."
Pig owners must stay alert. Report any sick or dead animals to the Farm Manager at the SPBC immediately.
